Paul's funeral services are to be held next week Sunday 10/21/07 at 1pm. The venue will be Atlanta North Seventh-Day Adventist church where a repass will be held as well.

Driving Directions to Parking Deck M
From the North: Take Interstate 75/85 southbound to Exit 249A (Courtland Street) and follow the exit ramp to the right onto Courtland Street. Continue along Courtland Street for .5 miles and turn left onto Auditorium Place (Courtland curves to the right at Edgewood Avenue and Auditorium Place is immediately on the left after this curve). Turn right into the first Deck M driveway for visitor parking.

From the South: Take Interstate 75/85 northbound to Exit 248B (Edgewood Avenue / Auburn Avenue / J.W. Dobbs Avenue) and continue for .2 miles. Turn left onto Edgewood Avenue and continue for .3 miles. Turn left onto Courtland Street and take an immediate left onto Auditorium Place. Turn right into the first Deck M driveway for visitor parking.

From the East: Take Interstate 20 westbound to Exit 58A (Capitol Avenue / Downtown) and continue for .6 miles. Turn right onto Capitol Avenue and continue for .2 miles. After passing the Capitol on the left, Capitol Avenue turns into Piedmont Avenue. Continue straight on Piedmont Avenue for .4 miles and turn left onto Auditorium Place (which is the next street after Gilmer Street). Turn left into the first Deck M driveway for visitor parking (indicated by a red 'visitor parking' sign).

From the West: Take Interstate 20 eastbound toward Atlanta and merge onto Interstate 75/85 northbound via Exit 57 toward Chattanooga / Greenville. Continue on 75/85 for 1.4 miles and then take Exit 248B (Edgewood Avenue / Auburn Avenue / J.W. Dobbs Avenue) and continue for .2 miles. Turn left onto Edgewood Avenue and continue for .3 miles. Turn left onto Courtland Street and take an immediate left onto Auditorium Place. Turn right into the first Deck M driveway for visitor parking.

Directions to the College of Law from Parking Deck M
Exit Deck M onto Gilmer Street, cross Gilmer Street and walk down Piedmont Avenue (in the opposite direction of traffic) to the next corner. The College of Law is in the Urban Life Center on your right at the corner of Piedmont Avenue and Decatur Street. After entering the law school, continue straight ahead to reach the elevators which are located across from the Law Library entrance. Dean and Faculty offices and conference rooms are located on the 4th Floor of the law school.

MARTA
Travel to the Georgia State station on the East/West rapid rail line. Exit the station onto Piedmont Road. Turn right. The Urban Life Center is located one block from the MARTA station on the left at the corner of Piedmont Road and Decatur Street.

Update on Paul's Vigil

The College of Law will be holding a candlelight vigil to celebrate the life of Paul Brady on Wednesday, October 10, from 7:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The vigil will be held in the 2nd floor courtyard, outside the West Exhibit Area (facing the Sports Arena).

Candlelight Vigil to be held for Paul at GSU

A candlelight vigil will be held for Paul celebrating his life and mourning his loss Wednesday, October 10th, 2007. The walk will begin around 7:15pm at the Law Library and end at the corner of Decatur and Piedmont (the scene of the accident).

I thought I could do updates from my phone at the hospital. For some reason Blogger doesn't work well with it. I'll have to update after 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays unless there is a serious change in Paul's status.

Paul's temperature has come down a few more degrees. He's still abit warmer than we'd like to see him, but at least his fever has broke.

He's still under heavy sedation because he is in a special bed that rotates his body in order to help his lungs fight pneumonia.

Good news about his infection- the bacteria that was causing the problem is treatable and Paul is reacting well to the antibiotics.

Paul's fever has broke and the oxygen levels in his blood are returning to normal! This is great news because it will help give his body the strength to continue to fight infection and heal his injuries!

Great news! Paul's breathing has returned to almost normal since I've left the hospital this morning! His situation remains minute to minute, day to day, however. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and/or prayers. We appreciate all the love from our family and friends.

Paul's situation has worsened due to a combination of lung complications, infections and pneumonia. He's fighting an accute disorder that I will not elaborate on per his parent's request that is a result of the injuries sustained during the accident.

The Doctors are doing what they can for him, and he will have to continue to fight to survive this latest threat.

Please continue your prayers as we struggle through this difficult time.

One of Paul's favorite Music Groups to make song

An Atlanta-based Hip Hop group known for making positive, soulful Hip-Hop is making a song for Paul. The name of the Band is Collective Efforts. He's been a fan of the group for years, and it's a blessing that they would agree to do this for him!

Paul is able to move all of his extremeties, sit-up, and respond to simple requests. Because of the breathing tube in his mouth (servicing his punctured lung), and the feeding tube in his nose (helping maintain stomach and damaged instestinal functions) he is unable to speak.

We are not certain at this time if he would be able to speak if these tubes were not in place, but when asked simple questions he is able to nod or shake his head in response.

Late Friday an on-going fever developed into pneumonia and Paul was moved onto a bed that keeps his body in constant motion in order to battle further lung infection. It was at this critical juncture that Doctors determined that visitation should be limited to immediate family only.

Early Saturday morning Paul responded to his parents singing his favorite hymn by sitting up, opening both eyes and moving his arms and legs.

Saturday afternoon at approximatley 4pm a prayer meeting for family, friends and classmates of Paul began on the 5th floor waiting room and was moved to the Grady Memorial Chapel.

The Situation Week 1:

Early Tuesday morning, October 2nd 2007 Paul was hit by a small truck while crossing the street at the intersection of Decatur and Piedmont near Georgia State University in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia.

Paul suffered multiple injuries including head trauma, and several broken bones. He is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Grady Memorial Hospital in Downtown Atlanta. All prayers, kind thoughts, and well wishes are welcomed.

Due to complications, Paul is not able to receive visitors at this time. It is, however, important to note that visitors may still stop by the hospital to offer support for the Brady family. This time is both emotionally and physically draining. Seeing friends and loved ones helps to reinvigorate us for our daily duties with Paul.

We would like to express our appreciation for the Georgia State University administration particularly in the Colleges of Business and Law for their help and support. We can't put into words the gratitude we share for the College of Law's students, faculty and administration. Combined with the support of our family and friends, the genuine care and concern from the GSU community has been a godsend.

Many of you have asked how you can help. To be honest, we aren't sure. We are still sorting our situation. Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Prayer is the best way to help at this time.

A few items of note:

- Only 2 visitors (when allowed) can see Paul at a time
- Paul is currently in the ICU on the 7th floor at Grady
- Visitors and guests for Paul can normally be found congregating either in 5J, 5A, or the Grady Chapel.
- A Call tree is being formed this weekend, if you haven't been contacted by a member of the family by email or by phone then you will probably not be included on the call list please e-mail your info to the link that will be provided.
- No flowers, gifts, or balloons can be housed with Paul until he leaves the ICU.
- Doctors expect Paul to be in ICU for another 2 weeks.
